'Suits' that rock
The musical alter egos of more than 20 corporate, business and university leaders better known for their non-musical "day jobs" will dust off their instruments and vocal chords in a fundraiser for the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center in Covington. The event is 7:30-11 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the center in Covington. The list includes Nancy Zimpher, Ed Rigaud, Kevin Canafax, Ed Blanchard and John Domaschko on stage at the Otto M. Civil War display
Members of the 4th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Descendants Association will exhibit Civil War artifacts at the Nixon-Brant House in Lebanon on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2 and 3. Hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and 12-4 p.m. Aug. 3. The Nixon-Brant House, at 27 N. Mechanic, is the oldest in Lebanon, and its last private owner served in the Civil War. The display coincides with the Civil War Encampment at Glendower Mansion, also in Lebanon.

Golf for literacy
Golfers will test their skills in the dark during the Literacy Network's first Tee up for Literacy Moonlight Golf Scramble. It's 8:30 p.m.-midnight Friday, Aug. 8, at the Delhi Hills Par 3 Golf Course. Cost is $50 per golfer, $190 per foursome, non-golfers $20. LaBolt sendoff

Terry LaBolt, who's hosted and performed at many local benefits, will get a grand evening of his own on Friday, Aug. 8, as he leaves Cincinnati to become music director of musical theatre at Indiana University. The sendoff, a benefit for the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts, will begin with cocktails in the lobby at 7 p.m., followed by a stage concert featuring local favorites, then a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception. Broadway's Jessica Hendy and Gina Valentine recently were added to the night's roster of entertainers. LaBolt has conducted Broadway and national touring productions, directed, and performed locally and on the national stage. Tickets are $25 and $15. Call 241-6550.


A two-fer at CAM
The Cincinnati Art Museum's new exhibit, "Long Time No See: Hidden Treasures from the Cincinnati Art Museum," is a chance to view rarely seen works from the museum's 61,000-object collection. It continues through Aug. 31. The exhibition also gives visitors a first look at the early conceptualized stages of a new design for the museum, as well as models of current and past projects from Neutelings Riedijk Architects, the firm working with the museum. Chorus on roll
The May Festival has come and gone, but the Chorus keeps on going. Already this summer, it has performed at Great American Ball Park and in the first of three concerts with the Cincinnati Pops at Riverbend. Next up will be "Piano Idol" on Saturday, July 19, and "Broadway and Beyond" on Saturday, July 26, with the Pops. Sundial honors Nohr

A sundial is being erected on the grounds of the Cincinnati Observatory Center on Observatory Place in memory of the late Paul Nohr, who devoted more than 30 years to the historic institution. At a groundbreaking on June 21, Nohr was described as "the heart the Observatory. His smiling guidance inspired students – both kids and kids-at-heart alike – to discover new curiosities. He gave us the means to pursue them through his caring restoration of the historic telescopes and his unselfish sharing of his considerable knowledge." Call 321-5186.

Save the date: freshART
The 16th annual freshART dinner and live auction is Sept. 13 from 6-10 p.m. at Behringer-Crawford Museum in Devou Park, Covington. It's a chance to watch local artists at work in Devou Park and bid on the artwork. A sunset dinner is served on the museum's terrace. Tickets are $60 per person.
